This uptown Charlotte engagement session - roaming the city with Abby and Clay - finding pockets of light and laughter.

How did you meet?
Clay and I first connected on Hinge and bonded over our shared love of the outdoors. It seems a little sketchy in hindsight, but our first date was a hike at Lake Norman State Park, where he surprised me with pastries from his favorite local bakery — a spot we still love visiting together today. We spent the afternoon strolling along the lake, sharing pastries, and getting to know each other.
How did he propose?
Clay proposed to me in early January, and it was a very sweet surprise. Because we had been traveling so much over the holidays to visit family, we decided to wait and exchange our Christmas gifts once we were finally back home together, though I later learned he already had my gifts and was just waiting on the ring to be finished. I was opening the last of my presents and tucked into the cozy blue flannel Clay had bought for me on a recent trip was a small ring box that tumbled out when I pulled out the shirt. For a split second we both looked at it and instinctively lunged — Clay managed to grab it first! He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes. After, we headed out to celebrate at Supperland. It was the perfect way to end such a special evening. The whole proposal was intimate and heartfelt.
For the Groom | What do you love most about your girl?
My favorite thing about Abby is how much love plays a role in her everyday life. She’s always going out of her way to show people how much she loves them, whether it be little gifts, gestures, or a never-ending wave of hugs, kisses, and “I love you”s. She has made it a priority to surround herself with love and is a never-ending fountain of producing it herself.
For the Bride | What do you love most about your guy?
Of the many things I love about Clay, my favorite is the way he can always make me laugh. No matter my mood or what kind of day I’m having, he somehow knows exactly how to bring a smile to my face. He has this amazing ability to lift any situation and pull me right out of a funk. Clay is funny, charming, and just the right amount of silly, with the best sense of humor. Life with him is lighter, happier, and so much more joyful.
