My latest engagement session took place in the artsy NoDa district with this awesome couple. They chose this location because it was their first neighborhood when they moved to Charlotte, and the bars and coffee shops are still their go-to weekend hangout spots. We dodged the Saturday evening crowds, hit up all the hot, photo-worthy spots, and even grabbed some fading sun. For being their first professional photo shoot, they hit it out of the park, and I couldn't be more proud of the emotion, joy, and movement they brought.
Here are their stories ... as told by Kathleen :
How did you meet? We met in college through mutual friends -- my best friend and his roommate at the time were friends, and they introduced us. We were friends all throughout college, and after graduation we got together! I like to say that I came to my senses and realized what a catch he was, so I made my move, and luckily the feeling was mutual :)
How did he propose? We went to Wilmington, NC where we met :) I'd always wanted to go to Airlie Gardens, so on a weekend trip in August he surprised me by taking me to the gardens one afternoon. We walked around for a while taking in the flowers and coastal scenery, and when we got to a more private spot underneath a pergola he got down on one knee and proposed! I have no idea what he said because all I can remember is that we were both crying and I kept saying "Yes!" :) It was perfect!
For the Groom | What do you love most about your girl? "The thing I love most about you is how you let me be myself around you and how you're always on board for being weird with me. It's cliche but you're my best friend, and I love being able to just express myself with you in weird ways and you fire right back with extra weirdness, which makes me love you."
For the Bride | What do you love most about your guy? This is a tough one because I love everything about him (so cheesy, I know!). I'd have to say what I love about Joe the most is that he's incredibly selfless -- he puts my needs (and other's) above his own to make sure that I'm feeling happy and loved at all times!
