The Kassam + Phillips Families | A Double Lake Norman Family Photography Session

As a Lake Norman family photographer, a photoshoot with little ones is not for the faint of heart, but comes with a dose of patience and a side of documentary.

On this night, I had the privilege of photographing two families from up north (NYC and Canada) who were visiting the Lake Norman area, and staying in a beautiful, lakeside rental. In celebration of a milestone birthday, a photo shoot was gifted, and that’s how we spent the evening ... running around on the dewy grass trying to catch smiles from toddlers and babies, swatting away mosquitoes, and picking tomatoes, intermingled with hugs, kisses, and exasperated laughter.

It may not be perfect, expectations might need to be lowered, and it may come with a bit of frizzy hair and moody faces, but family sessions when you’re in the thick of it are all about showing up. And showing up is the best thing to do when those little faces rapidly change by the day. Document the sad, the happy, and everything in between. You’ll never regret showing up, and letting life happen in front of the lens.
